Brett is a Swashbucklin' Pirate

Brett got into a scuffle on the high seas over Memorial Day weekend so now he has to sport these old-man-at-the-eye-doctor glasses (his other ones were a casualty of the fray) to keep from scaring small children. Kacy likes it becase he looks dangerous.

I Love Technology

Clearly, but it seems to be catching on amongst my family members as well. Congratulations are in order for all of my parental units, not only are they succesfully reading this blog but Dad and Julie are now throughly obsessed with their new Mac and Mom has re-discovered her love of making photo albums, only now she has officially stepped into the 21st century and is making them online - first yoga, now this - be still my beating heart! Katie/Katherine/Mrs. Ou what are you waiting for? Hop on the bandwagon, it's the cool thing to do. PS: I would like all of my tech savvy readers (yes, all five of you) to note: you can click on any of the pictures I embed into a post and they will open up in a new window as a gigantic version. Why should you care? Because, take the organized cupboard photo for example - if you don't click on it then you will never be able to see that not only are the shelves organized but they are LABELED! Awesome I know.

Memorial Day Weekend

Mom drove up Saturday morning for the long weekend and the first thing we did was play exterminator - whats that you say? Oh, you've never played exterminator? Well then poor you, apparently you've never shared your living quarters with about a million of these little guys. Needless to say, they are pretty hard to kill, so it was really an all-weekend activity but it started out Saturday with us spraying the yard with a couple different types of things that probably aren't too great for the ecosystem. Then we locked the (flea-covered) dogs up in the laundry room so that we could fog/flea-bomb the inside of the house. We had to give this stuff about four hours to work its magic so we decided to travel over to Palatka for the 19th annual Blue Crab Festival. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon if I do say so myself. We got a nice sampling of the local talent with a full blown dance recital (we're talking outfit changes and sequins ending with a stars-and-stripes routine to the tune of "I'm Proud to be an American") all you can eat beer and blue crabs, and topping it off with this little number...
After all that excitement we got home to a flea-free house and yard so the last step was getting them off of the dogs with a flea bath. Believe you me, this is easier said than done. Maggie hates getting a bath so by the time we had wrestled her into submission we were just as wet as she was. Molly isn't so bad, she doesn't really mind getting wet, but her hair is so long that the fleas don't just wash out nice and easy, no sir you have to pick them out one by one as she stands there shivering and looking pitiful (some people might say ugly, but she is growing on me so i'll just leave it at pitiful). Sunday morning we woke up and mom couldn't find any coffee in the kitchen so we went out for breakfast, on the way home we stopped at the grocery store to stock up for the week. When we got back to the house we realized that there wasn't much space in the refrigerator so we decided to do a quick clean-up. One thing led to another and we ended up with a laundry room-like situation on our hands. Once we were done pitching all stale and/or out-of-date food items we had filled up not only our city-provided industrial sized garbage can but we had also filled up one belonging to an out-of-town neighbor, resulting in a spick and span fridge and some very well organized kitchen cabinets. And we found the coffee. All six containers of it. Today we finished up the transformation by vacuuming up all of the (presumed) dead fleas from the couches and rugs, and mopping the floor to get rid of the film left by the flea bombs. Our efforts seem to be paying off, the dogs aren't itching and I'm not grossed out - we'll see how long it lasts.

Chicken Pox

I've never had them so when I was little I got the vaccine but apparently they require a second round of the shot these days so I stopped by the infirmary yesterday and this is what I woke up with this morning... ouch. And it itches.

Sunday Brunch

We are making good use of the porch before the weather becomes unbearably hot. I was supposed to go over to Jess' and Jocelyn's apartment today for a improptu tea party, but I needed to be at the house so that Mr. Taylor could drop off Kacy's dogs (I volunteered to watch Maggie and Molly so that they wouldn't have to be boarded while she is overseas) so the party got moved to the porch. We grilled hamburgers and had some target practice with my new airsoft gun - you know, just normal tea party stuff.

Mood Lighting

Kacy will probably never go on vacation again for fear that her house will be unrecognizable upon her return.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

If a hungry little traveler shows up at your house, you might want to give him a cookie. If you give him a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. He'll want to look in a mirror to make sure he doesn't have a milk mustache, and then he'll ask for a pair of scissors to give himself a trim... This phenomenon pretty much sums up our day yesterday. I asked Laura to help me move my mini fridge out to the laundry room before she went home for the month. Once we got out there we decided that we needed to sweep the corner before we put the fridge in, and then we decided if we were sweeping the corner we might as well move our bikes out so we could sweep the entire floor... needless to say, things snowballed and we ended up taking everything out of the room and giving it a thorough cleaning. In the process of getting rid of some of the excess old wood stored in there we decided that Club 1616 was not complete without a bar so we called up some of our guy friends and the next thing we knew it was 8pm. So when Kacy gets back she will find a bar in her breakfast nook, a spotless laundry room and the mini fridge living outside.

La Dia De Los Madres

Well mom, you haven't quite mastered the digital camera but I will let it slide since it was mother's day and all. If you look closely you will see that this is a sequence of me jumping onto Chad's tube in an attempt to throw him off. Fortunately the pictures stop with me in mid-air so you don't see him stiff-arming me before I land directly in the water.

You know you want one...

Come on dad... I listened to the instructions for this and they were MUCH harder to understand than your new Mac is going to be. Plus if you mess up on the Mac you aren't going to end up losing a limb or drowning in the lake. PS: Notice the tiger stripes.

R.N.

AHHHHH! Pending completion of my last class this summer I will be the real deal. Mom came up Thursday afternoon for the pinning ceremony and Dad and Julie arrived late Thursday night just in time for a tour of the Gainesville bar scene. I took Dad and Julie on a quick bike ride through campus before graduation Friday morning. Mom and I had a mini photo shoot during lunch at Kacy's house afterwards and we finished up by renting out Swamp Friday night. Laura graduated on Saturday so I took a break from moving and put my robe back on for a couple more pictures because lord knows I hadn't taken enough.

Goodbye Room 18

It is official now: no more Kappa Delta. Sad but true, and a much harder realization to come to than I thought it would be! Laura and I have lived in Room 18 since we were sophomores and I don't think we will ever forget it. We have willed away the infamous bunk beds to the future occupants, but the couch has made the decor cut for Club 1616. I would have to say that beginning the process of splitting up all the stuff we have collected over the past three years has been the hardest part. Up until now it hasn't mattered what gets packed where because we have known that three months later it will all end up right back in Room 18, but not this time. During the process of packing up the room we came across some unlit candles - one of the stipulations of living in the Kappa Delta house (aside from wearing shower shoes) is that you cannot have candles because lighting them is against fire code. We couldn't bring ourselves to throw away the unused candles so we decided to light them while we worked. Needless to say, we got distracted - maybe this is why we haven't gotten anything done. PS: Notice the graduation robes.
